Nature’s Neighborhoods intermingles live animal exhibits with emulative and parallel play activities and whole body “safe risk” adventure and imaginative play experiences. The project is loosely organized into three biome-based multi-species live animal exhibit and experience zones: Woodlands, Wetlands, and Grasslands. These are linked by an exploratory play environment, the Thicket, that takes the form of a highly stylized evocation of a classic New England transitional pasture, an ecotone where several different “natural neighborhoods” and their inhabitants overlap and intersect.
